
There was palpable tension in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, as policeman reportedly shot a man, identified as Segun Emir dead in the early hours of Sunday.
It was reliably gathered that a
policeman had allegedly assaulted one of those men on the pitch over yet to be
known issue which resulted to hot argument between the policemen and the
deceased, who came with some of his friends to play football at a pitch located
at Oke-baale area of the metropolis.
The deceased was shot by an
officer in the ensuing melee, as the policemen fled the scene immediately.
The deceased, who was shot on the
chest, gave up the ghost at the Ladoke Akintola University Teaching Hospital,
LAUTECH, Osogbo.
The confirmation of Emir’s death
at LAUTECH, therefore, made some youths to attack a police station at the area,
which threw the whole community into serious panic and pandemonium.
Meanwhile, all efforts by our
reporter to get police reaction practically proved abortive, as several calls
put across to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, SP
Folashade Odoro went unanswered.
